Course content
The course is designed especially for students dealing with particles and/or dispersion systems modelling. It provides a brief introduction and input into the dispersion systems, their properties, behaviour, preparation, stabilization and characterization: - Classification of dispersion systems: colloids, sols, gels, foams, emulsions, aerosols; macromolecule solutions; micelles, surface films. - Preparation and characterization of dispersions. Basic and the most important properties. - Phenomena in dispersion systems: forces between colloidal particles; sedimentation, electrokinetic phenomena; heterogeneous dispersion systems. - Colloidal solutions of high molecular weight substances and their properties. - Rheological and optical properties; stability and kinetics of colloidal systems. - Gels; Micellar colloids and lyophobic salts. - Preparation and stabilization.
