The subject Czech statehood deals with the interpretation of the development of Czech (Czechoslovak) statehood and selected areas of state policy and state institutions in the Czech lands and Czechoslovakia during the 20th century with an emphasis on the period of existence of the common state of Czechs and Slovaks in 1918-1992. The interpretation includes the political, social and cultural changes that Czech society in particular has undergone. The international context will also be monitored. Attention will be paid to the beginnings of modern Czech statehood in the period after the fall of communism and the division of the common state.
The student will acquire the following professional knowledge: - can characterize the concept of statehood - can use professional terminology - can explain the influence of fundamental systemic changes in the 20th century on the development of Czech (or Czechoslovak) statehood - can characterize the change in the character of Czech statehood in the international context during the fall of communism in Europe
