Course content
Topics: 1. Development of the political system in the Czech lands and in Czechoslovakia until 1948. 2. Changes of the political system 1948-1989. 3. The opposition movement. 4. Transformation of the political system after 1989. 5. The disintegration of the Czech-Slovak Federation. 6. Anti-totalitarian character of democracy in the Czech Republic. 7. Czech political culture. 8. Interest groups. 9. System of political parties. 10. Media in political process. 11. Constitutional institutions and their function in Political system. 12. Municipal policy. 13. Political system in the Central European context.

Learning outcomes
The lecture introduces students to the development and institutional form of the Czech political system from 1989 to the present. The interpretation also reflects the historical and social context, in which the changes in the Czech political system took place before 1989. The international context will also be monitored. The development of the political system is also explained in terms of the programming and development of political parties and other ideological subjects.
Student will be obtain the following knowledge and skills: - can characterize the basic phases in development Czech political system in the 20th century - can explain the role of constitutional institutions and theirs functions in the political system - can explain the basic problems of the present Czech political system and political parties - differentiates the main directions of Contemporary Czech political thought - can use scholarly terminology

Independent work with scholarly texts and literature study will be required. It will be verified by elaborating a written work in the extent of 5 standard pages. The student completes the course on the basis of passing a written knowledge test.
