Course content
1. Economics, politics and economic policy Definition of terms, carriers, tools, goals, basic coordination mechanisms. 2. The concept of economic policy Development milestones, interventionism, economic policy and globalization. 3. Market failure and government failure Concept, causes and types of failures. 4. Political vs. economic cycle The problem of information, motivation and time delays. 5. Fiscal economic policy Fiscal policy, public debt issues. 6. Monetary policy Money, inflation, currency bubbles and monetary stabilization. 7. Economic policy in international relations Regulation of international trade, migration. 8. Consumer protection policy Price and product regulation. 9. Competition policy Antitrust legislation. 10. Labor market policy Protection of employees, unions. 11. Environmental policy Sustainable development, energy and natural resources. 12. Social policy Health and pension systems. 13. Economic policy of economic transformation Regulation and deregulation, privatization, transformation of the Czech economy.

Learning outcomes
The course follows the lecture in Economics I, Economics II, as well as in the History of Economic Thought (alternative social and economic theory). The "economic policy" will extend and deepen the previously discussed questions about new selected perspectives. The aim of the course is to get students acquainted with the development of perspectives on the often frequent and current special segments of this issue and thus give an impulse to their independent and creative analysis.
