Course content
Lecture Topics: 1. Introduction to special pedagogy (subject, goals, methods, terminology, individual fields of special pedagogy, education system, counselling). 2. Speech therapy (introduction, classification and etiology of speech defects, therapy options, specifics of upbringing and education of individuals with impaired communication skills). 3. Surdopedia (introduction, classification and etiology of hearing defects, specifics of upbringing and education of individuals with impaired hearing). 4. Typhlopedia (introduction, classification and etiology of visual defects, specifics of upbringing and education of individuals with visual defects). 5. Psychopaedia (introduction, classification and etiology of mental disabilities, specifics of upbringing and education of mentally disabled individuals). 6. Somatopedie (introduction, classification and etiology of physical disabilities and health impairments, specifics of upbringing and education of individuals with physical disabilities). 7. Ethopedia (introduction, classification and etiology behavioural disorders, specifics of upbringing and education of individuals with behavioural disorders) Partial deficiencies (introduction, classification and etiology of learning disorders and ADHD, ADD, specifics of upbringing and education of individuals with non-partial deficiencies). Seminar Topics: 1. Diagnostics in special education (test examples). 2. Practical introduction to different types of speech defects: recordings, video. 3. Alternative and augmentative communication: introduction to different disorder types, demonstrations, possibility of using. 4. Typhlopedia: compensation aids (excursion to Tyfloservice). 5. Psychopaedia: social learning (demonstration of work with manuals for individual activities). 6. Somatopedie: interest activities of physical disabled. 7. Social and sports games for individuals with a disability.

Learning outcomes
The subject introduces students to basic knowledge from individual fields of special pedagogy. It allows students to fulfil one of the basic presumptions for their future profession: care for the physically and mentally impaired. It also presents the development of communication and cognitive processes.
Subject Knowledge: In the context of theoretical knowledge, students can characterize individual fields of special education; they can use terminology relating to the issue given. Students can describe basic educational and teaching methods in individual types of disability, and they are aware of the importance of empathic approach to the clients and their family members. Subject Skills: Students can design the adjustment to the environment, didactic aids, toys and rules in children games in individual types of disability. Students can implement theoretical knowledge into the practice.
