Course content
Lecture topics: 1st consultation: Basic microbiology, immunology, epidemiology, hygiene. Disinfection, sterilization. 2nd consultation: Basics of work hygiene, hygiene requirements for health care facilities and their operation - rehabilitation workplace, healthcare associated infections and their prevention. Seminar topics: Personal hygiene of personnel, hand hygiene - practical training and effectiveness check. Self-study: Study of literature

Learning outcomes
The course provides students with basic knowledge of microbiology, epidemiology and hygiene, the effects of physical, chemical and biological factors of the living and working environment and the way of life on the human organism and population health. It introduces the principles of disease prevention, protection and health promotion. It applies the general principles of hygiene and epidemiology to health care institutions, to the requirements for their construction and operation.
Expertise: Student knows basic professional terminology in the field of microbiology, immunology, epidemiology and hygiene, knows the function and components of the immune system, knows the essence and forms of immunization, knows the etiology of epidemiology and prevention of healthcare associated infections, hygiene requirements for construction and operation of medical facilities workplace rehabilitation, principles of disinfection and sterilization, principles of personal hygiene and hand hygiene of medical staff. Professional skills: Student is able to read and interpret professional literature in the field of microbiology, immunology, epidemiology and hygiene applied to physiotherapy and rehabilitation, has acquired practical habits of prevention of healthcare-associated infections, working procedures in the provision of healthcare in terms of prevention of healthcare-associated infections, personal hygiene principles and procedures for washing and disinfecting hands and wearing gloves.
