Course content
Lecture topics: 1. Introduction to the study, basic division, aspects of modern physical therapy. 2. Effects of physical stimuli, general principles of choice of physical therapy. 3. Thermotherapy. 4. Hydrotherapy. 5. Application of local heat, cryotherapy. 6. Inhalation. 7. Classical massage. 8. Mechanotherapy. 9. Therapy of lymphedema. 10. Indications and contraindications of physical therapy. Exercise topics: 1. Basic touches of classical massage. 2. Classic massage - set for DK from behind, from front. 3. Classical massage - set for HK. 4. Classic massage - set for neck and head. 5. Classical massage - set for chest, belly. 6. Thermotherapy. 7. Hydrotherapy. 8. Mechanotherapy. 9. Use of hydrotherapy in balneotherapy of spa facilities. 10. The use of thermotherapy in the balneotherapy of spa facilities.

Learning outcomes
The subject is conceived as theoretical - practical, it is the subject of profiling base of the study program. It enables students to acquire professional theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the field of physical therapy with a focus on the use of traditional and modern physical means. The aim of the course is to acquire professional knowledge, professional skills and general abilities in the field of principles and therapeutic procedures in the implementation of the physical therapy program, acquiring knowledge of the physical mechanism of individual procedures, including adherence to safety and health at work.
Expertise: The student demonstrates a broad knowledge of physiological mechanisms of the effects of physical therapy in the field of hydrotherapy, thermotherapy, inhalation, mechanotherapy including understanding of the possibilities and use of physical therapy resources in the planning of a comprehensive physiotherapy program. Professional skills: The student is able to use basic therapeutic procedures in the field of physical therapy, can propose the application of physical means in individual indication groups, knows and respects the principles of health safety. General eligibility: The student is able to practically use basic means of physical therapy in the field of hydrotherapy, thermotherapy, inhalation, mechanotherapy in practice.

Assessment methods and criteria

Credit: 80% active participation in seminars, demonstrating acquired practical skills - basic massage touches, performing individual sets of classical massage, passing practical training in balneotherapy of the spa facility (Lázně Teplice a.s.), passing the credit test.
