Course content
Lecture Topics: 1. consultation: Introduction, mass structure, interaction. Warmth and temperature. Biological membranes, still and action membrane potential, electric power, activity potentials. Optics, biophysics of vision, diffusion of light and basics of optical display, machines in medicine using optical methods. Electromagnetic field and it's interaction with an organism, magnetotherapy. Laser. Magnetic resonance. Self-Study: "The edge of the Environment" phenomena, transport phenomena, transformation of energy in an organism. Biophysical aspects of temperature regulation. The use of warmth and cold in therapy. The basics of acoustics, sound and ultrasound and their spreading, noise and audiometrics, application in medicine. Physical basics of breathing, blood circulation and blood pressure. Ionising radiation in medicine, X-rays, computer scanning tomography, radiotherapy.

Learning outcomes
The subject provides basic information on biophysics. The aim is to teach the students selected topics from the field of biophysics: some basic knowledge of physics and the issues of it's application in medicine.
Subject Knowledge: Student knows basic terminology, he /she gains the knowledge explaining the nature of biophysical processes in human organism. Subject Skills: Student can explain selected processes in the human body from the biophysical point of view and describe the principles of physical technology functioning which he/she will need to apply in clinical practice.
