Course content
Lecture topics: 1. Balneology - history, content of the field. 2. Natural curative resources (PLZ) and their applications. 3. Indication list, indications and contraindications of spa treatment. 4. Organization of spa care. 5. The role of physiotherapist in spa. 6. Documentation in the spa facility, treatment plans in the spa. 7. Locomotive organs and balneology diseases. 8. Knowledge from spa practice including case reports. 9. Psychological aspects of spa treatment.

Learning outcomes
The course is concipated as theoretical. It is aimed at providing knowledge about the use of natural healing resources in treatment. It also provides information on indication groups in the spa industry. The aim is to acquaint students with the possibilities of using natural healing resources.
Expertise: The student demonstrates knowledge of the application of appropriate medical procedures for the given diseases in the spa, professional documentation in the spa necessary for the work of a physiotherapist and knowledge of natural healing resources used in the spa in the Czech Republic. Professional skills: The student is able to apply physiotherapeutic procedures according to the doctor's prescription in the spa, work with professional documentation in the spa necessary for the application of the procedures, apply natural curative resources in the spa and understand the results of PLZ analyzes performed by reference laboratories. General eligibility: The student is able to proceed in patient care on the basis of prescription and doctor's instructions, to coordinate the work of lower medical staff in the spa in the application of medical procedures and to provide information about PLZ and medical processes in the spa.

Assessment methods and criteria

Credit: seminar paper, written test to verify the basic knowledge of the field. Exam: oral exam with analysis of seminar work and verification of professional knowledge of the field.
