Lecture Topics: 1st consultation: 1. General psychiatry - terms, definitions. Mental health. Mental illness. Organic mental disorders - dementia, delirium. 2. Neurotic disorders - classification, case reports. 3. Affective disorders - diagnostic criteria, case reports. 4. Diseases of the schizophrenic circuit. Diseases of schizophrenic circuit - case reports. 5. Specifics of mental disorders in children and adolescents. Seminar Topics: 1st consultation: 1. Community Psychiatry. Social psychiatry. Psychiatric rehabilitation. 2. Working with an aggressive patient. Self-study: Legal Aspects in Psychiatry. Self-study: Community and Social Psychiatry; Legal Aspects in Psychiatry; Diseases of the schizophrenic circuit.

Learning outcomes |
The course is conceived as theoretical. It introduces students to general psychiatry, possibilities of diagnostics and therapy. It introduces legal aspects related to mental disorders. It points out the importance of occupational therapy as part of the treatment of mental disorders and focuses on the issue of working with an aggressive patient.
Expertise: Students can recognize clinical manifestations of mental disorders, respect the specifics of mental disorders in old age and childhood. Can describe basic diagnostic methods in psychiatry, list therapeutic options in psychiatry. Professional skills: The student is able to take into account the legal aspects related to mental disorders and justify the importance of occupational therapy as part of the treatment of mental disorders. Competences: The student is able to use theoretical knowledge from teaching in occupational therapy practice of patients with mental illness. |
