Course content
Lecture Topics: 1. Basic concepts: Survey / research, basic / applied research, qualitative / quantitative, experiment / investigation. 2. Qualitative research - selected methods (case report, interview). 3. Types of clinical trials and studies, ethical aspects - informed consent. 4. Introduction to statistical surveys: Population and selection, identifiers and statistical quantities. 5. Questionnaires - types of quantities, pilot investigation. 6. Elementary data description: Frequency issues including multiple responses, mode, pivot table. 7. Quantitative and torque characteristics: Median, diameter, standard deviation, box-fence. 8. Time series and its characteristics, example: database of IHIS (DPS-k). 9. Examples of using MS-Office Excel (frequency, contingency table, mode, median, average, variance). 10. Research at FZS UJEP - Laboratory for Study of Motion, Laboratory for Study of Chronic Diseases

Learning outcomes
The subject covers the issue of scientific work from problem definition, selection of adequate methods, research activities and creation of questionnaires to selected possibilities of statistical processing of obtained information and principles of their publication. The aim of the course is to provide students with practical instructions on how to proceed with the preparation of the bachelor thesis, including providing information on the possibility to participate in the research carried out at the faculty.
Expertise: Student knows the principles of scientific work in all its phases, ie from planning through implementation to publication of results, knows the corresponding terminology, and also knows related ethical standards. Professional skills: Student is able to acquire, electronically record and use computerized data processing using elementary statistical methods. Competences: The student understands the importance of scientific work for his field, is able to apply the principle of scientific work in his field adequately.
