Course content
Lectures: 1. Introduction to internal medicine and geriatrics. 2. Health examination in cardiology. 3. Heart diseases (focused on ischemic heart disease). 4. Atherosclerosis risk factors and their prevention, cardiac rehabilitation. 5. Circulation diseases. 6. Blood diseases. 7. Respiratory function examination, respiratory system diseases, rehabilitation after lung diseases. 8. Respiratory function examination, respiratory system diseases, rehabilitation after lung diseases. 9. Respiratory physiotherapy, drainage methods, balneology treatment and procedures. 10. Revision. Seminars: 1 - 3. Basic physiological function examination, proper blood pressure measurement in different positions during exercising, under load, heart rate and pulse measurement, respiratory frequency, respiratory capacity assessment. 4 - 6. Cardiac examination, basic ECG evaluation, physical load tests: ergometrics, pulmonary function tests: spirometrics, spiro-ergometrics focused on result interpretation leading to setting some physical activity plan, training pulse setting, and cardiac rehabilitation plan setting. 7 - 9. Respiratory physiotherapy methods, autogenic drainage, additional drainage techniques, internships in specialized institutions for function testing and cardiac diagnostics. 10. Revision.

Learning outcomes
The course is designed as a practical discipline. The aim of the course is to introduce modern equipment and its application in the treatment of geriatric clients in clinical practice, in particular in retirement houses and day care facilities.
Professional Knowledge: Students can individually present their knowledge and skill considering the topics of lectures within the delivered material limits or by means of self-study within recommended limits. Professional Skills: Students can measure blood pressure, heart rate and pulse during rest and during exercising, students can calculate or determine individual training frequency for rehabilitation of cardiac patients, they can recommend appropriate workload and physical activity for cardiac patients based on the results of the stress tests and other examination, students can instruct in autogenic drainage, they can instruct in breathing aids application for flutter and acapella rehabilitation types.

Participation in the practical part of the course: seminars 80%, an internship in a functional diagnostics laboratory, credits for participation and skill demonstration during seminars.
