Course content
Lecture Topics: 1st consultation: General goals of ergotherapy in neurological patients, possible return of lost functions, situation of seniors. Ergotherapy in stroke as a model of central palsy, adjustment of hand function. Ergotherapy for wounds and tumors of the brain, MS, difference in age-related goals. Occupational therapy in disorders of the extrapyramidal system and chronic infections. Occupational therapy in children with cerebral palsy and other childhood diagnoses. Ergotherapy after spinal cord injury, in peripheral paresis, especially in HK. Consequences of poliomyelitis. Vertebrogenic syndromes. Occupational therapies in cognitive disorders, speech disorders, intellectual abilities. Exercise Topics: 1st consultation: Occupational therapy in stroke, familiarization with elements of facilitation methods, restitution and substitution of hand function. Ergotherapy for brain injury, MS, cognitive training, pre-assessment. Ergotherapy in spinal lesion - function of hand in tetraplegics, possibility of sport. Occupational therapy in cerebral palsy and other pediatric patients, training games, self-sufficiency, continuity with school. Occupational therapy in peripheral paresis on GC, using splints. Self-study: Study focused on the rehabilitation of cognitive disorders and speech therapy in aphasia. Introduction to the program of civic associations dealing with long-term rehabilitation of neurological patients.

Learning outcomes
The course is conceived as theoretical and practical. It follows the lectures in clinical neurology. Students will acquire theoretical and practical knowledge that will be applied in the field of ergotherapy for clients with neurological diagnoses in post-acute and chronic periods. Emphasis is placed on self-sufficiency training, hand therapy and pre-work rehabilitation.
Expertise: The student demonstrates the necessary knowledge and skills in diagnostic and therapeutic areas for clients with neurological diagnoses. Professional skills: The student is well versed in the neurological area and can use this knowledge in decision making and selection of occupational therapy procedures. Competences: The student is able to use basic ergotherapeutic methods and procedures in patients with neurological diagnosis.
