Course content
Exercise Topics: 1. Introduction to the subject - principles of examination of an individual with mental disability. 2. Ergotherapeutic procedures for lighter degrees of mental disability - specifics of childhood and adolescents. 3. Analysis of case studies, suggestions of therapy. 4. Alternative and augmentative communication 5. Ergotherapeutic procedures in more severe stages of mental disability - specifics of childhood and adolescents. 6. Analysis of case studies, suggestions of therapy. 7. Utilization of ergotherapy in individuals with dementia. Analysis of case studies, suggestions of therapy. 8. Specifics of progressive disability. 9. Therapeutic techniques used in individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Learning outcomes
The course is designed as a practical one and it is a continuation of lectures in Clinical neurology, Psychology and Psychiatry. It introduces the issue of occupational therapy in individuals with mental disabilities of various degrees and various etiologies. It introduces students to the types of workplaces in which ergotherapy is used in individuals with mental disabilities.
Expertise: The student demonstrates knowledge in the field of ergotherapy for clients with mental disabilities. It demonstrates knowledge of individual therapeutic procedures, therapies and methodologies. It demonstrates broad knowledge of the short-term and long-term plan implementation of clients according to the degree of mental disability. It demonstrates knowledge of the level of knowledge and skills of clients in the field of cognitive, gnostic, executive, ADL, IADL according to their degree of disability. It demonstrates knowledge of individual types of facilities dedicated to clients with mental disabilities. Professional skills: The student is able to use the fundamentals of individual types of alternative and augmentative communication, he can determine short-term and long-term ergotherapeutic plan adequately to the degree of disability of the client with respect to his age. Competences: The student is able to practically use the basic elements of individual types of alternative and augmentative communication, is able to perform complex ergotherapeutic examination for clients with mental disabilities focused on the level of cognitive, gnostic, executive functions, ADL, IADL, is able to determine and execute short-term and long-term ergotherapy plan adequately the degree of client disability with regard to his age.
