Exercise topics: 1. Introduction to the subject - use of occupational therapy in the field of geriatrics. 2. Cooperation of individual health and social professions. 3. Occupational therapy in homes for the elderly - the work of an occupational therapist focused on functional, fitness and ADL occupational therapy. 4. Occupational therapy in gerontopsychiatry - possibilities of influencing the course of the disease. 5. Problems of apoplectic stroke - causes and treatment goals. 6. Problems of apoplectic stroke-ergotherapy and therapeutic methods. 7. Problems of Parkinson's disease - treatment goals. 8. Problems of Parkinson's disease - ergotherapy and therapeutic methods, resources. 9. Problems of senile depression, organically conditioned senile psychoses, Alzheimer's disease - treatment goals, therapeutic methods. Stages of dementia and palliative care approaches. 10. Problems of senile depression, organic senile psychosis, Alzheimer's disease - occupational therapy and therapeutic methods.

Learning outcomes
|
The course is conceived as theoretical and practical. The student is able to propose a therapy plan based on the senior's functional status. Emphasis is placed on maintaining adequate functional abilities, maintaining senior's self-sufficiency and active lifestyle. The student is able to apply the acquired theoretical knowledge in practice in the field of geriatrics.
Expertise: The student will acquire knowledge of the process of aging, the consequences of the disease, the deterioration of self-sufficiency and social events on the overall functional condition of the elderly. They will also learn how an ergotherapist can help a senior to maintain adequate functional abilities, self-sufficiency and an active lifestyle as long as possible. The student learns about the role of occupational therapist in various health - social and community services for seniors. Professional skills: The student is able to create and implement ergotherapeutic plan based on diagnostics in the given area. The student is able to apply appropriate therapeutic activities and methods to maintain the corresponding functional abilities and the level of self-sufficiency of the elderly. Competences: The student is able to practically use theoretical knowledge in occupational therapy practice and is able to make independent and responsible decisions in only partially known contexts based on the framework assignment
