Course content
1. Introductory Lecture: Objectives of the course, theory and philosophy of perspectives on the dynamics of public space, the city, and public participation 2. Theory: Public space; The city, organism, urbanism, the multilayered nature of urban space; Typology and history of urbanism, evolution of perspectives on public space, Camillo Sitte, Jan Gehl, modernism; Good examples of sculpture, design, and artistic intervention in public space 3. Theory: Conditions for artistic work in public space; Entry parameters, stakeholders: owners, the city, artists, technical possibilities 4. Design in public space: Furniture, installation methods; Visual design, history and present, visual pollution, advertising, navigation systems, manuals 5. City visuality, visual image of the city: The image of the city in society 6. Brownfield issues: Gentrification, marketing, revitalization of unused spaces; Strategies for project sustainability 7. Competitions as a tool for transformation: Artistic, architectural competitions, design competitions, key person - competition organizer 8. Transformative site changes: Good examples of changes in the creative industries 9. Transport and the city 10. Legislative and practical issues of urban events 11.-12. Event preparation, exhibitions, visual image changes: Based on individual assignments, consultations.

Learning outcomes
The course introduces students to practical skills, knowledge, and activities in public spaces or areas developed through the renovation of so-called brownfields. Students will explore conceptual contexts with practical, legislative, logistical, technical, and social dimensions, enriched by the connection to a specific genius loci. They will deepen their understanding of creative solutions in various spatial activity concepts within the creative and cultural industries (CCI), with a particular focus on public spaces.
