Course content

1. New media ? basic concepts, approaches and research methods, overlaps with philosophy and sociology. 2. Properties of new media ? typology. 3. Art of new media ? foreign and Czech art up to the 1990s (video art, sound art, interactive art). 4. Art of new media ? foreign and Czech art from the 90s of the 20th century. to present. 5. Cyberspace, virtual and augmented reality. 6. How to exhibit and archive new media? 7. Festivals, major shows and exhibitions. 8. Excursion to the institution. 9. Game art. 10. New games, currencies and images - influence on contemporary art, the market and the image of society. 11. Visit to the studio. 12. Presentation of the seminar work.

Learning outcomes
|
The course introduces students to the issues of new media in visual arts and exhibition operations. It introduces them to basic concepts and areas of theoretical and philosophical-social aspects related to new media studies. At the theoretical level, the course continues with the analysis of selected new media works, authors and projects abroad and domestic art. The course deals in detail with the latest areas in Internet and digital art and its related spheres such as the development of artificial intelligence, cyberspace and augmented reality. Students gain insight into the issue of game art, but also learn about the laws of archiving new media and the way they are exhibited. The practical level includes the active involvement of the selected artist (interview, visit to the studio) and also an excursion to the exhibition institution.
The gained capabilities constitute an encompassment and an aquirement of knowledge and experience in the subject and are aimed at a profile´s fulfilment of the graduate of the given field of study.
