Course content
1. What is art criticism and what is art criticism. 2. Media map of Czech writing about art (professional magazines, newspapers, specialized websites). 3. Foreign context (Anglo-American writing about art, Frieze, Artforum, Mousse). 4. Online publishing options (from blogs to Substack). 5. Writing about fine art in the context of writing about art in general. 6. Interpretation of a work of art, the subject of the author versus the readership. 7. Review of the exhibition, debate over the task. 8. Profile of the artist, debate over the task. 9. Review of a professional publication, debate over the task. 10. Editor's practice, discussion with a guest. 11. Presentation of seminar papers.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquire basic skills in writing various types of texts reporting on art. The course assumes basic familiarity with individual methods of analysis of works of art as well as the ability to formulate one's thoughts in writing. It is conceived as a space for rethinking the established ways of writing, criticizing them and possibly going beyond them with new, more original ways of writing. It is focused on sorting out views and formulating opinions on various phenomena of contemporary art. The course aims to develop independent critical thinking. The course is designed to be practical, students and female students are introduced to different types of evaluation texts, mainly reviews and criticisms, during the first meetings. Students complete three assignments during the semester, which are assigned based on their study direction and subject knowledge.
The gained capabilities constitute an encompassment and an aquirement of knowledge and experience in the subject and are aimed at a profile´s fulfilment of the graduate of the given field of study.
