Learning outcomes
The course has a twofold goal: 1. To acquaint the audience with the spectrum of contemporary philosophical views on art and artwork. 2. Philosophically reflect on the various contexts in which art moves today - and into which both the artist and the curator enter. In this course, we understand philosophy transdisciplinary, i.e. with overlaps into political science, sociology, media studies, anthropology, aesthetics, psychology, history, etc. The contexts that will be (philosophically) discussed include, among others: contemporary theories of sensory perception, overlaps of individual types of sensory perception (e.g. sound or tactile visuality), aesthetics and politics of representation, turn to the image, the subject and its questioning, gender, environment, city and countryside, genealogy of values and evaluation, digital and social media, postmodern religiosity. Lectures will be conducted in non-specialist language with an emphasis on comprehensibility. The course does not assume any initial knowledge of philosophy.
