Course content

1. Interest in everyday objects, figure and action in the art of the 1960s. Czech new figuration. Route groups, Maj 57, UB 12, Křižovatka and Lounská landscape school. Czech action art. Current group. 2. Art of the second half of the 1960s and 1970s. Emphasis on the moving image, recording the situation and experiment - the first wave video art. The development of installation art. 3. Development of Czech art in the second half of the 1960s and 1970s ? video art and land art. New sensitivity exhibition. 4. The onset of postmodernism in the mid-70s and early 80s of the 20th century. Definition of the term postmodern. Interest in identity, gender, multicultural aspects, third world makers and politics - developments in USA, Europe, third world countries. Impacts the second wave of feminism on the art of the Western and Eastern blocs ? politics of the body, criticism of the connection of female corporeality with the social and media construction of gender. 5. The onset of Czech postmodernism - the Confrontation exhibition. Underground, so-called gray zone, group 12/15 and unofficial exhibition activities. 6. Postmodernism of the 80s and 90s of the 20th century. Development in USA, Europe, third world countries. Postmodern return to painting, the onset the media of photography as an autonomous work, the art of appropriation, the second wave of video art and the emergence of new media. Graffiti in the USA, German Neo-Expressionism, Italian Trans-avant-garde. 7. The end of the Cold War, the fall of communism and the breakup of the Eastern bloc. Czech postmodernism - group Tvrdohlaví, exhibition Description of one match. 8. The advent of the Internet and globalization, the expansion of interest in artists outside the traditional Euro-American framework. 9?11 Professional excursions.

Learning outcomes
|
An overview of the development of Czech and world fine art in the second half of the 20th century up to current trends in visual arts. The subject helps to prepare for the state exam questions related to the development of visual arts since 1945. At the same time, the main curatorial approaches in the given period and their influence on the development of art are reflected.
The gained capabilities constitute an encompassment and an aquirement of knowledge and experience in the subject and are aimed at a profile´s fulfilment of the graduate of the given field of study.
