Course content
1. Virtual public space and graphic design. Giving specific examples. 2. Visual smog. Visual cultivation of society. Visual culture. 3. Information design. Infographics. 4. Orientation system in the metro or at the airport. There is power in simplicity. How to do it. Case study from history. Jiří Rathouský - the Prague metro and the Metronome font and the use of the orientation system on the territory of the Horní Roztyl and Kunratice housing estates in Prague. 5. Case study from history. Ladislav Sutnar in the USA, founder of modern visual communication. Defining corporate visual style. Then Benno Wissing. Orientation system at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam. 6. Human-centered design / User-generated design. Design for social change. 7. Critical design and the concept of critical practice. 8. Speculative design - new approaches in design. 9. Metahaven - research by design. 10. Current events and presentations of contemporary graphic design. Revision of the definition of contemporary graphic design. 11. Exercises / workshops / student presentations.

Learning outcomes
Graphic design surrounds us in public space at every step. Students will become more deeply acquainted with terms such as information design, unified visual style, orientation system, critical and speculative design, motion design, namely against the background of the changes that have taken place in recent decades in the field of visual communication and the study of visual culture. The course aims to deepen the understanding of the field beyond the solution of common design practice. In addition to the teacher's lectures, students are significantly involved in discussions in exercises and workshop activities on currently selected topics.
The gained capabilities constitute an encompassment and an aquirement of knowledge and experience in the given field of study, they result from a concrete annotation of the subject and are aimed at a profile´s fulfilment of the graduate of the given field of study.
