Course content
1. International style. Minimalism Mies van der Rohe. Development of functionalist ideas in the USA after 1945. 2. The first critical responses to the so-called International style. Brutalism. Peter and Alison Smithson. Shifts in creation Le Corbusier in the 1950s. 3. A variant of late modernity. Brazilian variant of functionalism. The beginnings of the postmodern current in architecture Robert Venturi, Charles Jencks etc. 4. Development of architecture in Czechoslovakia until the end of the 60s. 5. New currents of architectural and urban thinking. Metabolism. High Tech. Deconstructivism. 6. New currents of architectural and urban thinking. Metabolism. High Tech. Deconstructivism II. 7. Urban concepts of modern and contemporary city. 8. 90s in architecture. Paradigm shift in Central and Eastern Europe. 9. Regionalism in architecture. 10. The combination of design and architecture in the second half of the 20th century and at the beginning of the millennium. 11. Examples of current currents in architecture.

Learning outcomes
A series of lectures and exercises, which continue the overview of the development of architecture and design in the second half of the 20th century to present. Basic development trends, ongoing technological transformation of architecture and construction will be discussed. Furthermore, the lecture will deal with the transformation of the environmental situation and its influence on the transformation of architecture and urban space. Thematically, along with the development of architecture, shifts in design and approaches to it will also be discussed.
The gained capabilities constitute an encompassment and an aquirement of knowledge and experience in the given field of study, they result from a concrete annotation of the subject and are aimed at a profile´s fulfilment of the graduate of the given field of study.
