Course content
1. Art, design and applied art - an introduction. 2. Development of the artistic tradition of applied art in the Czech Republic (marked personalities and enterprises) 3. Applied and free art, pedagogical activity, Beautiful Room, ÚBOK (Antonín Kybal) 4. Glass as Czech cultural heritage (Pavel Trnka) 5. Applied art as a space for acceptance of abstract expressions (Eva Brodská), textile structures as a starting point for free creation (Renata Rozsívalová). 6. Applied art and the world avant-garde. 7. Soft sculptures, textiles and gender. 8. Professional excursion of the UPM 9. Professional excursion of MMP 10. Professional excursion on the topic Current artistic positions between applied art and design. 11. Presentation of term papers. 12. Summary, test.

Learning activities and teaching methods

Learning outcomes
The course focuses on the intersection of art, applied art and design - the mutual overlaps in past and contemporary artistic production. It will mention the marked personalities on the borderline between original artistic production and applied art, both from the domestic and international scene. The course will also introduce students to recent or current exhibition projects that have dealt with applied art as a phenomenon that should be rehabilitated within the visual arts. At least three professional excursions will introduce contemporary work and contact with representatives of different areas of the art scene.
The gained capabilities constitute an encompassment and an aquirement of knowledge and experience in the given field of study, they result from a concrete annotation of the subject and are aimed at a profile´s fulfilment of the graduate of the given field of study.
