The conception of this subject is based on a supposition that during their previous studies, master's degree students have gone through the course History of photography and therefore they are basically oriented in development of both application of technical innovations in the photography self-conscious process, and in basic trends of photography aesthetic genesis. However, it is necessary, especially during the first semester, to recapitulate this basic awareness and to sort out the so-far acquired knowledge. This approach takes into account the possible differences in the interpretive levels of the development lines occurring in students, considering preferences of the national scenes and the cultural circles they come from, and the nature of their previous bachelor studies. (Winter semester - the first set of lectures is structured chronologically, with a selection focus on the main topics. The presentation level observes the general developmental patterns of the chosen thematic areas.) The course content is also based on a supposition that foreign students are not very well oriented in relationships between world development of photography depicting and the development of photography media in the Central European territory, and in the Czech Republic. Besides lectures, tuition is supplemented by visits to the relevant sections of important museums having prestigious works of Czech photography in their collections. During the course, the student will realize several minor seminar works analyzing the relationship between significant figures of world photography and prominent Czech authors. 1. The Introduction - general overview of the situation. 2. Allegory of the Cave: Origins of photography and TBM. 3.-5. Constitution of photography viewed as one of the most important impulses (impacts) of changes in the society (Photography and positivism, Photography as forensic evidence; Photography and identification/classification of a man; X-rays in the history of Medicine; Photography, aerodynamics and ballistic research; Humankind and perception of Space: Role of astrophotography in pre-astronautic times; Photography, craniometry and rise of racism, etc). 6.-8. Constitution of photography viewed as one of the most important impulses (impacts) of changes in the art (Use of mechanical devices - camera obscura, magic lantern, camera lucida since the rennaisance times / examples; Line towards trapping reality - 1850´s; Line toward abstraction - turn of 19th and 20th centuries; Photography and avant- gardes; From composite prints via collages towards digital manipulation, etc). 9.-10 Portrait in the Centuries - since the rennaisance times until now; A Dialogue between traditional forms (painting, drawing, sculpting) and Photography, Video. 11. Still-life in the Centuries - since the rennaisance times until now; A Dialogue between traditional forms (painting, drawing, sculpting) and Photography, Video. 12.
