The aim of the course is to provide a thorough overview of the important epoch in European graphic culture, which played an extraordinary role in shaping the European civilization - the early Christian art. The course is devoted to Christian Antiquity, early Christian art, shaping European art after the dissolution of the West Roman Empire, and Byzantine art. Attention is given to Germanic culture, and to the role of the art on the British Isles (Irish and Anglo-Saxon). The students acquire deep knowledge of the historical, geographical, and religious context, they learn about issues of iconographic character, and problems with interpretation of artefacts. The course involves excursions and visiting exhibitions. In case of the students' interest, it is possible to add lectures and seminars devoted to Christian iconography and liturgy, and its interconnection with graphic art.
The gained capabilities constitute an encompassment and an aquirement of knowledge and experience in the given field of study, they result from a concrete annotation of the subject and are aimed at a profile´s fulfilment of the graduate of the given field of study.
