Course content
1. Listening The most common instructions, recognising auxiliaries and shortened forms, features of spoken English, selecting the "neutral" expected answer, samples 2. Listening Selecting the "distractors", expressions related to structuring, contrast, phrasal verbs, samples 3. Listening Spelling and numbers, prepositions of direction, punctuation marks and symbols, understanding the general message of texts, samples 4. English usage Grammar revision with special attention to articles, pronouns, prepositions, auxiliaries, tenses, modals, and conjunctions, samples 5. English usage Recognising parts of speech, skimming, looking up words after and before the gap in a monolingual dictionary, samples 6. Reading Scanning and skimming as methods of reading, transition words used as logical devices in an argument, samples 7. Reading Drawing maps and plans from instructions, time-limited reading tasks, samples 8. Reading and writing Authentic texts, letters, letter writing techniques, styles, and conventions, samples 9. Reading and writing Writing short replies to letters, e-mails, expressions used for focusing, samples 10. Writing Reading a range of narrative, descriptive and discursive topics, identification of the target reader, comment on effectiveness, number of words required, samples 11. Learning outcomes
he course is designed to prepare students for certified English language exams CE on inter-mediate levels B1, B2. These exams are accredited by MŠMT. All language skills (except speaking) required at the internationally valid exams are practised.. The course is recommended for students with English as their first foreign language. Prerequisite for the student is the post-elementary or the intermediate level of the language. The course concludes with a written test and ECTS credits. Students can enrol when the course is offered.
