Course content
Theoretical principles of spectral methods: brief overview of physical principles of the methods used and their fields of application. Lectures: application of spectral methods to the analysis of groups of organic compounds with emphasis on suitability of the particular method: Saturated hydrocarbons and haloalkanes. Alkenes and alkynes. Aromatic hydrocarbons. Alcohols, thiols, amines. Carbonyl compounds. Carboxylic acids and their functional derivatives. Organometallic compounds and complexes. Exercises: Practical drill in analysis of spectra of unknown compounds, first obtained by one method only and later by combination of spectral methods.
