Course content
1. Introductory seminar, assigning papers. 2. Language situation - position of Czech between European languages and in the world. 3. Czech enclaves abroad (Czech corner, Ratibořsko, Hlučínsko, Gmünd, Hohenau). 4. Language islands (Vienna, Berlin) 5. Language islands (Daruvar, Banat, Bulgaria). 6. Language Islands (former Galicia, Volhynia, Russia, Kazakhstan). 7. Language islands (USA, Canada, South America, Australia). 8. Teaching czech language at European and world universities. 9. Programm of the czech government to support czech cultural herritage abroad. 10. Teaching Czech abroad: czech schools without boarders, teaching Czech at compatriots, czech lectureships at UNI. 11. Czech legal status in the European Union; euroczech? 12. Czech and Slovak. 13. Evaluation of the seminar. 14. Discussion

Learning outcomes
Seminar will be dedicated to four main fields: 1) czech enclaves and language islands, 2) education of czech language abroad, 3) position of Czech in European Union and in the world, 4) the programm of CR governemnt to support czech cultural herritage abroad.
Students will gain overvirew of czech language spoken abroads, what is the situation in the field of teaching czech language abroads, how the Czech supports the teaching and what is the position of czech language in Europe nad in the world. Students will gain broader view of Czech as a mothertongue, secondary language and foreign language.
Prerequisites
knowledge of the field on the level of GCSE exam knowledge of disciplines connected to the central domain of study knowledge of appropriate terminology
