Course content
1. Familiarization with the discipline. Basic neological literature. 2. Neologisms and their conception, definition of nonce words. 3. Essay methodology. 4. Neologisms in the history of czech vocabulary development. Neologisms in old Czech. 5. Neologisms in the time of Humanism, Renaissance and Baroque. 6. Neologism in the period of national revival and in the 2nd half of 19th century. 7. Neologisms in the period 1918 - 1989. 8.-10. Neologisms in the contemporary vocabulary. Word-formation neologisms. New derivatives, abbreviations and new composites. 11. Neologisms in the contemporary vocabulary. Lexical neologisms. The newly borrowed words, neosemantisms. 12. Neologisms in the contemporary vocabulary. Lexical neologisms. New phrase namings, new idioms. 13. Neologisms in the contemporary vocabulary. New chrematonyms. Discussion about actual questions of czech neology. 14. Evaluation of essays.

Learning outcomes
The course aimed on the neologisms in contemporary vocabulary has the goal to deepen and widen the view of students on the particular disciplines of czech lexicology. The course may be seen as useful due to the development of linguistic creativity of students.
Student knows the terminology from the field of lexicology, word formation and neology; he can identify neologism in the text, knows the criteria for its definition; distinguishes various types of structural neologisms; he is oriented in development trends of Czech vocabulary; can estimate the perspective of the functioning of the chosen neologism in the vocabulary.
Prerequisites
knowledge of the field on the level of GCSE exam knowledge of disciplines connected to the central domain of study knowledge of appropriate terminology
