Course content
1. Familiarization with the discipline. Basic onomastic literature. 2. Basic onomastics terminology. 3. Methodology of essay. 4. Functional concept of onomastics. Naming act and its components. Using proper names (propria) in social communication. 5. Relational and word-formation models of proper names. 6. Genesis of propria. The issue of naming, renaming. 7. History of czech onomastic research. 8.-9. Proprian and their sound and graphic aspect. 10.-11. Proprian in terms of morphology. 12.-13. Propria in terms of word formation. Forming and motivation of proper names. 14. Evaluation of seminar works.

Learning outcomes
The seminar is devoted to proper names, namely from the perspective of motivation of their origin. Students will become familiar with the basic system and terminology of onomastics and with the methodology of onomastic research and farther with partial onomastic disciplines (toponomastics, anthroponomastics). Particular emphasis will be placed on the issue of the functioning of proper names in language communication.
Student knows the basic onomastic terminology, knows the methodology of onomastic research; he is aware of the specificity of the proper names and their systems in the language system; he is able to describe the formation of the proper names and do a complex language analysis; he orientates himself in the problematics of motivation, formation and functioning of the proper names in the social communication.

knowledge of the field on the level of GCSE exam knowledge of disciplines connected to the central domain of study knowledge of appropriate terminology
