Course content
1. Language and thinking, cognitive linguistics. 2. Transdisciplinarity of the language interpretation methods in communication on the basis of its cultural context. Language relativism of W. Humboldt. Ethnolinguistics. 3. Sociological and psychological starting-points of cultural linguistics. Semiotic aspect of language. 4. Intercultural communication as a new phenomenon of the present. Culture, culture dimensions, cultural standards. 5. Cultures and their specifics. Languages and intercultural communication. 6. Intercultural psychology. Prerequisites for intercultural communication. 7. Intercultural communication in proffession fields; intercultural communication in media and public sphere. 8. Intercultural communication and eductaion.

Learning outcomes
The course aims to provide students with basic information about the cultural language determination of various ethnic groups, about the linguistic picture of the world of Czechs in confrontation with other nations. Lectures are based on the fundamentals of cognitive linguistics considering Ethno-linguistic or sociolinguistic dimension of intercultural communication. In the seminar, students will become familiar with the pitfalls of intercultural communication and the principles of intercultural education, through the exercising of model situations that will lead them to build their own intercultural competence (for understanding, anticipating reactions and correct interpretation of verbal, nonverbal and paraverbal communication).
Student acquires competence in the field of intercultural communication, understands the focus of the discipline its significance and current problems.

knowledge of the field on the level of GCSE exam knowledge of disciplines connected to the central domain of study knowledge of appropriate terminology
