Course content
1. Introduction to the problematics. Basic literature of the discipline. 2. Definition of the journalistic style and its place in the system of functional styles. 3.-5. Inner differenciation of the journalistic style. News, analytical and literary genres. Work with text. 6. Construction of journalistic texts. Horizontal and vertical segmentation of texts. 7.-10. Linguistic aspect of journalistic texts. Work with text. 11. Spoken and written journalism. 12. Style of advertisement and advertising. 13. Individual creation of journalistic texts. 14. Evaluation of seminars.

Learning outcomes
Students will become familiar with the different types of genres in jurnalistic style (with news, analytical, literary genres), and with the construction of these texts. Attention will be paid also to composition and linguistic (grammatical, lexical) aspects of journalistic texts. Style of these texts will be studied based on the work with journalistic texts and with regards to their comprehensively conceived persuasive function. Students gain knowledge about the construction of journalistic texts and their internal genre differentiation. They will be able to identify the relevant genre (on the corpus of journalistic texts) and analyze its composition and applied linguistic features in terms of style. On the basis of theoretical knowledge they will be able to individually stylize various kinds of journalistic texts (especially news and analytical). The exam is written.
The student masters the terminology of the field of stylistics; he is familiar with the system of functional styles; he can identify journalistic text, characterize the composition and typical language features; he can perform stylistic analysis of selected magazine article; he is able to apply theoretical knowledge of stylistics in his own production of texts.
