Course content
1. Meginning of modern literature in the end of 19th centry, symbolism, decadence, important persons. 2. Second generation of modern literature, new artistic trends and schools before First World War. Expresionism and Neo-classicism. 3. Poetism in poetry and prose. Literary group "Devětsil". 4. Literature with reflections ofwar. Hašek. Legionary literature. 5. Metamorphosis of novel in 30.years of 20th century, psychological prose. Historical prose and prose with reflection of village. 6. Poetry in 30.years, Halas, Holan, Reynek, Zahradníček, Hora. Poetry of 1938. 7. Surrealism. International connections, relations with visual arts. 8. Literature of Second World War. Orten´s generation. Wartime prose. 9. Era of 1945- 1948. Important persons, topics of discussions, important literary works. Kritický měsíčník (periodical magazine of literary reviewers). 10. Fifties. Socialistic realism against plural conception of literature. 11. Ressurection in the end of 50th years of 20th century. Role of small theatres. 12. Sixties: Attemp for reconstruction of literary life in Czech republic. 13. Normalization, literature in exile and in samizdat.

Learning outcomes
This subject improves elementar skills of Czech literature development in era of 1895 - 1989, which each student achieved on secondary school education. Lectures are focused on interpretation of artistic schools and groups, which were in every single epoch profilated and even these lectures are focused on explanation of elementar terms in according to these era. Explanation of literary history is confrontated by situation in other artistic branches, especially in visual arts. It affiliates events in Czech litearture to events in European literatures and searchs for answers on questions, how many this development of Czech literature were influenced by key-events of modern history.
Students get deeper knowledge of Czech literature history, they will be introduced with basic terms and canonical works of Czech literature of 20th century. They will be introduced with most important literary-historical works, which are focused on this era. They will be able to search relevant informations, to critically appraise it and work with it in case of analysis of concrete artistic and literary work; they get deeper knowledge of sophisticated expression of own opinion and be able to argue for it in formal discussion.

knowledge of the field on the level of GCSE exam knowledge of disciplines connected to the central domain of study knowledge of appropriate terminology
