Course content
1. Czech literature, literature in Czech speaking countries 2. Literature in era of Czech reformation 3. Czech humanistic literature 4. Baroque as ressource of modern literature 5. Classicism, or preromantism. 6. From classicism to romantism. 7. Czech romantism and its specifics. Karel Hynek Mácha 8. Beginnings of realism in Czech literature. Němcová and Havlíček 9. Generation of Máj ("May school"). Jan Neruda. 10. From May school to Ruch-Lumír generation. 11. Lumír generation and context of world literature. 12. Fighting for realism in Czech literature. 13. Czech realism in eighties of 19th century.

Learning outcomes
This subject is focused on following of transformation in Czech language literature in case of multi-ethnical culture sort since the oldest era until eightees of 19th century. Purpose of this course is to introduce trainees with keywords of developement Czech literature of these epochs in connection with worldwide literary context. Seminars will include interpretation of chosen literary texts. Class credit awards are conditioned by written test and oral exam.
Students are able to orientate himself/herself in important developing changes of older Czech literature, even of literature of 19th centry and understand to its role in active cultural heritage.
Prerequisites
knowledge of the field on the level of GCSE exam knowledge of disciplines connected to the central domain of study knowledge of appropriate terminology
