Course content
1. Contemporary Czech language and language culture; 2. Norms and codifications; Codification handbooks 3. Language culture and language correctness; 4. Cultivation of a public speech 5. Techniques of speech 6. Theoretical discussion on the theme of language culture; 7. Culture of speech x culture of language 8. Voice-power, tone and time modulation, voice-tone modulation 9. Types of public speeches (according to situation, and speaker´s intention) 10. Conditions of successful presentation of a public speech 11. Presentation of a public speech: Lecture on given topic 12. Analyses of selected presentations (New-year speech of President, Promotional speech) 13. Presentation of a public speech: Ceremonial and Mourning 14. Listening of excerpts of speeches and analyses of their language culture: artificial presentation, spoken news-reporting, ceremonial speech, mourning-speech etc;

Learning outcomes
This subject is a general introduction to study of language and communication. The course contents basic information about history of linguistics, summary of principal language theories and theories of philosophy-of-language discipline. It contents also knowledge from linguistic disciplines and methods, knowledge of language structure, its function in a process of communication , principal characteristics of Indo-European languages (with attention to Slavic-languages).
Student is able to professionally evaluate the quality of different genres of speeches, handle the preparation and presentation of a coherent public speech in front of an audience. He knows the basics of speech technique and can use the knowledge in his own practice even when assessing speeches of other people.

knowledge of the field on the level of GCSE exam knowledge of disciplines connected to the central domain of study knowledge of appropriate terminology
