Course content

1. The history of rhetoric. 2. Types of public speeches from the stylistic perspective. 3. The characteristics of particular types of public speeches (political, ceremonial, funeral etc.). 4. Preparation of public speeches with regard to its function. 5. Psychological aspects of rhetoric abilities. 6. Overcoming stage fright and insecurity in public speech. 7. Voice qualities and their utilization in particular speech. 8. Prepartion of public spoken discourse (e.g. thesis defence) - gathering the material, language devices selection, composition, oral presentation. 10. Video analyses (prom graduation, wedding, funeral speech, president´s New Year´s speech, etc.). 11.-13. Practising speech abilities - prepared speeches, their presentation in from of the audience. 14. Evalution.

Learning outcomes
|
Purpose of this seminar is suppose to be an introduction of important stages of rhetoric, it also should show students how to create speeches of hight quality with different functions of communication. There is also a training for some kind of rhetorical skills.
Student understands the benefit of historical figures for the current subject of rhetoric. He is equipped with rhetorical skills and able to recognize mistakes of other speakers. Student can confidently present his speech in front of an audience with the knowledge of rhetorical principles.

knowledge of the field on the level of GCSE exam knowledge of disciplines connected to the central domain of study knowledge of appropriate terminology
