Course content
1. History and the meaning of Old Church Slavonic as the first standard Slavonic language. 2. Old Church Slavonic Cyrillic scripts - questions of its development and destiny. Introduction to the Old Church Slavonic Cyrillic alphabet. 3. Old Church Slavonic and the Cyril and Methodius tradition in Great Moravia and Bohemia. Verbal reading exercises, morphemic analysis of words and its translation. 4. Old Church Slavonic vocabulary and Old Church Slavonic parts of speech; reading, translation and text analysis. 5. Grammatical categories of nouns and verbs; reading, translation and text analysis. 6. Nominal vocalic stems; grammatical exercises, reading and text analysis. 7. Nominal consonantal stems; grammatical exercises, reading and text analysis. 8. Non-thematic verbs; grammatical exercises, reading, translation and text analysis. 9. Thematic verbs - classification of verbs (general overview); grammatical exercises, reading, translation and text analysis. 10. Verb tense system - simple and compound; grammatical exercises, reading, translation and text analysis. 11. Pronouns - classification of pronouns and inflection types; grammatical exercises, reading, translation and text analysis. 12. Adjectives and adverbs; grammatical exercises, reading, translation and text analysis. 13. - 14. Old Church Slavonic in the language system - confrontational view in the Slavonic and European context; confrontational analysis of the New Testament biblical text.

Learning outcomes
Lectures and seminars of the introductory course of Old Church Slavonic for the first year Czech language solo students try to give basics of Old Church Slavonic grammar, deal with learning and practicing of work with the original Old Church Slavonic texts, its reading and phonological, morphological or word-forming analysis (from the developmental point of view). Students learn questions of Old Church Slavonic graphic systems, Old Slavonic literary reliques and literary reliquies considering the tradition of Bohemia and Great Moravia. The subject pays attention to development and destiny of the Cyril and Methodius tradition in Great Moravia, Bohemia and the Slavonic world.
Students can read Old-Slavonic texts and analyze it from the morphematic and morphological point of view, can understand and interpret cultural-social importance of the formation of the Cyril and Methodius tradition and literature in native and European context, students gain threw the study deeper view on the Czech language in its generally Slavonic and historical context. Studying of the Old-Slavonic is very important for further historical studying module - the study of The Historical Grammar.
