Course content
|
1. The concepts of word naming. Vocabulary and its composition. Layers in vocabulary. 2. World as semio-space, the status of the language in it. 3. Analysis and description of word meaning, its capture in the dictionary. The construction of the dictionary entry; Work with dictionaries. Dictionaries of Czech language. 4. Dissemination and transfer of word meanings, origins and development of polysemy. 5. Position of synonymy and antonymy in communication: Hypronymy, hyponymy, colyponymy. Vocabulary steady formation of multi-word connection. 6. Vocabulary from foreign languages. 7.-10. Word formation. Word-formation processes and procedures. Onomasiologic word formation and word structure. Word-formation means. Deriving autosemantic word classes. 11.-12. Composing autosemantic word classes. 13. Abbreviations and shortened words. 14. Current trends in the Czech vocabulary.

Learning outcomes
|
Student gets a file of necessary knowledge and skills, which in turn can be used in teaching the Czech language at all levels of education. The course includes the doctrine of vocabulary (lexical system) in the broadest sense, including Czech word formation. Student to obtain a comprehensive view of current vocabulary and word formation Czech system with regard to current trends it going.
The student masters the terminology of lexicology and word formation; has an overview on contemporary Czech vocabulary; knows the ways and tools for flourishing Czech vocabulary; works with monolingual dictionaries in Czech language;.He is able to apply his own theoretical knowledge of lexicology and word formation in speech activities. He can also apply theoretical knowledge of lexicology and word formation in teaching the Czech language at schools.
