Learning outcomes

This course introduces the basic techniques and methods of comparative thinking and encourages students to think about Czech literature in transnational and also in intermediate contexts; objective will be to overcome the insulating especially the concept of "national literature" and offer concepts that emphasize the non-linear and pulsatile nature of literary events. Emphasis is placed on working with a particular material, particularly with regard to the history of Czech literature in 20th century.; reflected the relations Czech literature to other national literatures, as well as the visual arts, film, music and others.
Finishing the course the student will be able to: understand the basic methods of comparative thinking; understand the current state of comparative literature as a discipline and its development; apply methodological basis of comparative thinking when explaining literary phenomena and also in the interpretation of particular literary works (focusing on czech literature). Student will also understand czech literature in a transnational context and within the broader context of art history.
