Course content
1. Introductions to the field. Primary onomastics literure. 2. Basic onomastics terminology. 3. Methodology of onomastics seminar work. 4. Funcional approach of onomatology. Designation and its parts. Using proper names (propria/onym) in social communication. 5. Relations and derivations of propria. 6. Genesis of propria. An issue of designation and renaming. Relation of onomatology and sociolinguistics. 7. History of czech onomastics research. 8.-9. Graphic and sounds form of proprias. 10.-11. Proprias from the morphological point of view. 12.-13. Propria from word-formation point of view. Formation and motivation of proprias. 14. Present day trend of proprias in czech language systém.

Learning outcomes
This seminar is delas with the problem of proper names from the origin poin of view. Students will be introduced to basic systém and terminology of onomatology, also with methodology of onomastics research and with disciplines that are connected to onomastics field (toponomastics, anthroponymy, ???). One of the most important things will be the issue of proper names in communication considering the language culture, theoretical lessons will be useful in educational practice.
Student knows the basic onomastic terminology and methodology of onomanistic research. Student realizes the specificity of proper nouns and their structure in the language system. He is able to perform versatile language analysis and describe how those proper nouns have been created. Student is familiar with the issues of motivation formation and functioning of proper nouns in social communication. He is able to apply theoretical knowledge of onomatology in lessons.
Prerequisites
knowledge of the field on the level of GCSE exam knowledge of disciplines connected to the central domain of study knowledge of appropriate terminology
