Course content
1. Chmelenský's Slovo o kritice and Havlíček's Kapitola o kritice (beginnings of czech literary critique 2. Sabina's Úloha kritiky, Neruda's Moderní člověk a umění (Literary romantic a realistic critique) 3. J. V. Sládek as a representative of Lumírovci critique (vz. Kritika a kritikářství), H. G. Schauer included in basics of CZECH MODERNISM (our two topics) 4. F.X. Šalda and Jiří Karásek ze Lvovic (Karel Hlaváček's Kritika patosem a inspirací), (criticism before modernism and criticism in periode of czech modernism: its movements, courses and representatives) 5. T. Vodička: Základy umělecké kritiky, Jan Franz: Studie 6. J. Durych: Ejhle, člověk, (Czech religious critique) 7. Štoll as Fučík's follower? (Víra uhlířská, thirty years of fighting or marxist criticism before and after the second world war) 8. Structuralism and post-structuralism, Mukařovský: Kapitoly z české poetiky - and what' left of them f.ex. in Trávníček's Poezie poslední možnosti 9. V. Černý: Boje a směryy socialistické kultury (Fighting for the next direction of czech culture and literature - 1945-1948) 10. M. Suchomel: Literatura v času krize, M. Kundera's speech on fourth annual congres of the association of Czechoslovak writers (so is Schauer still relevant?) (Literary critique in nineteen sixties) 11. J. Lopatka: Předpoklady tvorby, J. Kratochvíl: Příběhy příběhů (illegal literary critique in times of normalization, postmodern idea in czech literary critique.) 12. Movie and theater reviews. New media and literary critique. 13. Literary critique in North Bohemia area, its limits, possibilities and representatives. 14. Closing seminar, studens work rating, credit giving/credits.

Learning outcomes
The basic method is suppose to be dealing with texts and its interpretation - student should be able to know the difference between work as a servant of a certain time period and what is eternaly valuable. This should help a student prepare for his own critical interpretanitons which should contain the knowledge of not only tradition but also of conditions of present-day literature (and literary critique)
Student gains abilities in understanding critical texts; he is also independently able to create critical text; able to give reviews of the aesthetical creation and argue in favor of his/hers own ideas. He understands the concepts of artistic norms, values, artifact or aesthetic object; acquires knowledge of the history of critical thinking.
Prerequisites
knowledge of the field on the level of GCSE exam knowledge of disciplines connected to the central domain of study knowledge of appropriate terminology
