Course content
1. Situation of Czech literature at the beginning of the occupation. Entrance of Orten generation. Skupina 42 (Group 42). 2. Czech prose during the war. Psychological novel, Historical novel, Novelistic experiments (Součková, John etc.). 3. Period 1945 - 48. Attempt at restitution of plural literary life. Culturally political discussion. Kritický měsíčník. 4. Poetry and prose reflecting occupational experience in first post-war years. 5. February 1945 and with it connected metamorphosis of literary life. Social realism. Socialist construction prose and poetry. 6. Literature of 50s except the official structures. 7. Revitalization of literary life in the 2nd half of 50s. 8. Čas. Květen and poetry of everyday life, theatres of small stages. 9. Prose of 60s. Thematic and genre differentness. Edition Život kolem nás (Life around us). 10. Tvář generations and their representatives. Šestatřicátníci. 11. Great authors of poetry and prose of 60s. 12. Theatre of 60s. Small scenes. Josef Topol, Václav Havel, Pavel Kohout etc. 13. Normalisation and its consequences in literary life. Literature of "grey zone". 14. Literature in samizdat and emigration.

Learning outcomes
This subject's goal is familiarization with significant trends and authors of Czech literature from 40s of 20th century to the year 1989. Lectures follow literary life in periods of two totalities as diffusion of official conceptions and conceptions conflictingly standing against official territory. Interest is focused on pivotal events and crucial pieces, especially those which throughout the time became part of the canon. Even often dramatic process of accepting these pieces and their shifting from ideologically unacceptable section to the position of canonical pieces is observed. The seminars focus of the work lies in the analysis of primary texts, their inclusion to the historical development. Attention is devoted even to the work with basic literary historical literature.
Student acquires compact idea about development of Czech literature in the 2nd half of 20th century, gets familiar with the most significant authors, art movements and problems of this period. Student gets familiar with key pieces of this period and specialized literature.

knowledge of the field on the level of GCSE exam knowledge of disciplines connected to the central domain of study knowledge of appropriate terminology
