1. Introduction to Russian literature 2. Beginnings of Russian letters (Russian epic and Cossack Duma) 3. Literary activity in Moscow in the 16th and 17th century 4. Russian letters during the reign of Peter the Great and czarina Catherine II. 5. Russian Sentimentalism 6. Beginnings of Romanticism in Russia 7. Ideological and social currents in the thirties and forties in the 19th century 8. Pushkin, Lermontov and other contemporary writers 9. Russian drama and novel writing in the 19th century 10. Russian realism 11. Greats of the Russian novel (Turgenev - Dostoyevsky - Tolstoy) 12. Russian Avant-Garde 13. Russian literature in the interwar period 14. Russian literature in the second half of the 20th century and at the turn of the millennium.

Learning outcomes
|
The course is conceived as a summary of Russian literature from folklore to present, with wide culture-historical context and relations with Czech literature. Students have an opportunity to become acquainted with pieces as Byliny, Nestor´s chronicle, Word about Igor´s regiment or Life of protopop Avvakum. Increased interest will be focused on the work of Pushkin, Gogol, Lermontov, Dostoyevsky and other classic authors of Russian literature of the 19th century. Attention will be focused on split of Russian literature from the area and conceptual point of view, also changes in interwar period, formation socialist realism concept, destiny of Russian and European Avant-Garde. From the 20th century, students will know authors as for example Yesenin, Tsvetaeva, Sholokhov, Bulgakov, Aitmatov, Solzhenitsyn etc.
Students orientate in basic developmental tendencies of the Russian literature, handle genres and movements of the Russian literature and can speak about most important authors and their works.
