Course content
|
1) Terms word, naming. Vocabulary and its composition. 2) World as a semiotic space, position of language in it. 3) Analysis and description of the word meaning, its dictionary form. Structure of dictionary entries; working with dictionaries. Czech dictionaries. 4) Widening and transferring of word meaning, origin and development of polysemy. 5) Widening and transferring of word meaning, narrowing and widening of semantic naming. 6) Semantic relations in vocabulary - role of synonymy and antonymy in communication. 7) Semantic relations in vocabulary - hyperonyms, hyponymy, co-hyponymy. 8) Widening of vocabulary by formation of creation steady compounds - combined naming. 9) Widening of vocabulary by formation of creation steady compounds - idioms. 10) Formal relations in vocabulary - homonymy, paronymy. 11) Widening of vocabulary by lexical borrowing. 12) Lexicography. Basic knowledge of the Czech lexicography history. 13) Stratification of vocabulary. Vocabulary layers. 14) Actual developmental tendencies in the Czech vocabulary.

Learning outcomes
|
Student gains a set of required knowledge and skills which can be used in later practice with teaching Czech language at all educational stages. The course deals with the study of vocabulary (lexical system) in the specific term. Student gains a complex view on the present Czech lexical system with regard to its actual developmental tendencies.
Students handle terminology of lexicology, orientate in present Czech vocabulary, know ways how to enrich Czech vocabulary, work with expository dictionaries of the Czech language, can apply theoretical knowledge of lexicology to their own speech activity and apply it in teaching the Czech language.
