Course content
1. Plant genomes. Organisation of plant nuclear, mitochondrial, plasmid genome. Domestication of crops. Dometication traits, domestication syndrome. 2. Conventional methods of breeding, special methods of plant cultivation. Cryopreservation. 3. Tissue cultures. Aseptic cultures of plants, embryos, organs, cells, protoplasts. Regeneration, morphogenesis. Stability of tissue cultures. Types of media, hormones, incubation. 4. Callus, haploid cultures, practical use. Somatoclonal variability, somatic embryogenesis. Micropropagation. Suspension cultures. 5. Methods of GMO preparation, transformarion of plant cells. Direct and non-direct methods of gene delivery. Particle gun bombardment, microinjection, electroporation, sonication, Bacterial, viral vectors. Agrobacterium tumefaciens, Ti plasmid. 6. Transgenic plants 1. Transgenes against herbicides, insecticides. GMO for high yield. 7. Transgenic plants 2. Transgenes for production of secondary metabolites. Molecular farming. Biofortification. 8. GMO legislative, GMO potential, risks. 9. Phytoremediation, bioremediation.

Learning outcomes
The course is focused on basic principles and methods in plant biotechnology. The set of lectures covers topics from plant molecular genetics to social acceptance of GMOs .
