Course content
The teaching of the course in full-time form includes the following topics after individual weeks: 1. History of rural areas in the context of historiography 2. Land books and their transformation 3. Cadastres and their use for settlement development I. 4. Cadastres and their use for settlement development II., urbariums 5. Vital records - a source for understanding not only the demographic development of the locality 6. Inventories of subjects by faith, inventories of souls and censuses during the 17th to 20th centuries - possibilities and limits of evidence sources 7. Court and notary writings of the 19th and first half of the 20th century - testaments, contracts, disputes 8. Home law documents, records of emigration abroad 9. Trade files - a look into the non-agricultural activities of the rural population 10. Building files 11. Health reports and the change in the relationship to rural hygiene (introduction of water supply) 12. School and its documents 13. Customs, traditions and their rendering in sources 14. Transformation of the rural landscape over the centuries

Learning outcomes
The aim of the compulsory elective course will be to introduce students into various types of sources that they can use in heuristics if they decide to write the history of a particular locality (municipalities, solitudes). The rural environment was in many ways different from urban life. This fact was subsequently reflected in written sources, which the current researcher can use for their knowledge. Therefore, this course will focus purely on the rural environment.

Prerequisites
No prerequisites. Appropriate knowledge of the basics of paleography and archival networks in the Czech Republic.

Assessment methods and criteria

Students actively participate in the course. During the teaching, theoretical knowledge will be supplemented by the study of sources. Students will be required to cooperate in the analysis of certain facts in the submitted copies of archive materials. The course will end with a colloquium, during which students will present a brief report on sources on the history of their chosen locality.
