The aim of the course is to deepen and concretize students' general theoretical knowledge in the field of archival science in the form of specialized lectures and seminars focusing on the area of city archives and, more generally, the entire group of archives of territorial self-governing units. The genesis of city archives in the Czech lands in the broader European context is analyzed in more detail and the theoretical foundations and historical roots of the current legislative regulation and the factual position of these archives are explained. In the seminar part (supplemented by a professional excursion), students are introduced to the historical role, significance and current agenda of five existing city archives in the Czech Republic, the history and current integration of other originally city archives (within the existing SOA and SOkA) and, in particular, the irreplaceable role of this group of archives in the area of supervision of the file service, pre-archival care, shredding management and enrichment of the national archival heritage.
The student acquires knowledge about the archives of territorial self-governing units.
