Learning outcomes
The aim of this course is to deepen the basic theoretical knowledge in the field of organizing archival material, which students are introduced to in the Archival Science course. However, this time it is a deeper and problem-oriented explanation combined primarily with practical tasks aimed at mastering the basic principles of this key skill for archivists of all levels. First, attention will be paid to older historical material with an emphasis on early modern material and sources from the years 1848-1918, the second part of the course will be focused on the most recent archival materials, created after 1918. The basic types of collections and the issues associated with various variants of their organization will be given space here, and above all, what options are offered by the existing collection organization, which is, however, unsatisfactory (created, for example, in the second half of the 19th century based on the principle of pertinence). Somewhat different demands are placed on archivists by collections created after 1918, where it is often necessary to deal with the incompleteness of the collection or with inappropriate shredding in the past. It is necessary to carefully choose the principles of internal shredding related to the duplicate preservation of the same information in superior files.
The student will acquire knowledge about access to various types of archival material. He will be able to critically evaluate the state of preservation of the originator's registry. The processing of archival materials cannot be left aside, nor can the decision on the method of possible manipulation or changes in the storage scheme be left aside. He will be able to apply theoretical knowledge in practice in the chosen archive.
Prerequisites
