Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to enrich students' knowledge in the field of monasteriology, with the focus on the activities of religious orders in the Czech lands during the Baroque period. The issue will be viewed primarily through the lens of mutual interactions of religious orders with the surrounding world. This is a topic without which it is impossible to interpret the history of individual orders, whose flourishing or decline was directly dependent on the acquisition of new religious and benefactors. The question of the mechanisms that religious orders used to establish and deepen social contacts is linked to the care for a positive image of religious orders.
Students will gain a basic overview of the activities of religious orders in the Czech lands in the early modern period. They will be familiar with the issues of self-presentation of religious orders (e.g. through alms collection, preaching, religious brotherhoods and tertiary communities, etc.) and at the same time they will master the typological level, especially the source base, which can be used in the study of this topic.
