Course content
Digital archiving. Artificial intelligence in archives. Archival education and pedagogy. Archives as a tool of democracy. Methods of archive materials selection. Archive inflation and volume reduction of archived materials - possibilities, methods, tools. Minimization of data in archives and storage restrictions. Archives, archivistics and historical science - intersections and skew lines.

Learning outcomes
The course further develops new trends in contemporary archivistics in a broad international comparative perspective. Topics in the field of digital archiving, the use of artificial intelligence in archiving, as well as some special areas of archival work: such as archival education, archival pedagogy, the role of archives as one of the tools of a democratic society, methods of selecting archive materials for permanent archiving, and tools for reducing the massively growing volume of archives will be reflected. Absolutely key categories of data minimization in archives and storage restrictions will be presented for future archiving, as well as two basic principles of the European GDPR regulation with impacts on archivistics. The relationship of archivistics to historical science and other current issues of contemporary archivistics will be analyzed.
Students will gain an overview of some of the important current topics and trends in archivistics in the 21st century in the Czech and world perspective. They will gain awareness of some issues in the field of digital archiving, the use of artificial intelligence in archives, archival education and archival pedagogy. They will be introduced into the field of archival selection methods. They will get an overview of the current phenomenon of the need to minimize data in archives and restrictions on storage, two basic principles of the European GDPR regulation with implications for archivistics. They will be acquainted with the specifics of the relationship between archivistics, archival work and historical science.
